Myndtown Wines was set up in 1995 and as we enter our sixteenth year of trading, it tempts me to look back at how things have changed. Well, I suppose we were not in the middle of a global recession then and duty rates in retrospect seemed an absolute bargain.... The wine world has also changed with the advent of Chile and Argentina emerging as producers of fine quality and affordable wines, taking over the mantle previously held by Australia. The one country which has emerged producing better wines, is in my opinion France. Having hauled themselves up by their boot straps, the French producers have invested in new equipment, grubbed up over-producing vines and are now producing wonderful wines. I suppose I am a bit of an old fashioned type, but for me the wines produced in France will always be my favourites. There is such choice of styles produced from a myriad of grape types across the different wine regions – zesty whites from The Loire, softer whites from burgundy and delicious sweet wines from Bordeaux or Southern France. The reds give as much choice, be they from Burgundy, Beaujolais, Provence, Bordeaux or the Languedoc. There are examples of wines from all these regions in the list and I trust you will find them as enticing as we do.
